Ah, sweet avant-garde madness from one Juho Goatspeed, which maintains individualistic clarity of vision while completely eschewing the bedroom-BM aesthetic. Five tracks of mondo bizarro fringe-adherent quasi-black metal on offer, drawing from the usual influences. I’m kidding, of course, since there’s nothing usual in this realm of extreme metal. Still, one can point to various spots on this record and feel the spectral auras of Peccatum, Korova, pre-K Covenant, Arcturus, Ved Buens Ende and the rest of an inscrutably wacky lot circa 1997-2000. A sullen ‘80s British new wave atmosphere, Crowleyian references both explicit and tangential alike, and obscure 1970s psychedelic vibes permeate the record as well, due most likely to whatever combination of hallucinogens are at work (on Juho, not me!). It all comes together with sterling integrity and precision. This is all the more laudable given that the album was recorded in willy-nilly fashion over the time span of some three years, which could have easily rendered it somewhere between patchwork and overindulgence. With a more conventional recording schedule, a full band at work and drums with more oomph, Spiderpact will inevitably create a keeper to accompany this sleeper. - Matthew Kirshner

REVIEW from aQaurius Records: Latest from these Midwestern noiseniks, this time with a full complement of assistant noisemakers, including Rich Hoak (Brutal Truth, Total Fucking Destruction) as well as folks from Fuck The Facts, The Endless Blockade and 7000 Dying Rats! Sounds like a seriously noisy nasty party indeed. The last Winters In Osaka we reviewed was Orchids, and unlike a lot of noise music, it was way more rhythmic and textural, offering up a series of sort of fractured skitters and looped grooves, all liberally doused with plenty of noisiNESS. But we knew these guys were capable of kicking up a serious din and they do just that on Molded To Crawl. Opening with a 17 minute epic, that begins with muted percussion, samples, buzzing electronics, which quickly builds to a full on face melting skree, but within that skree, synths squiggle, vocals howl, guitars feedback, sirens wail, the chaotic blowout does seem to occasionally almost slip into something drone-y or almost riff like, but for the most part, it's a thick dense wall of sound that is not for the faint of ear. The other three tracks are shorter, and tend toward the darker and the dronier, again rooted around plodding percussion, and layered buzz, the sound veers from lurching machine like industrial lumber, to Godfleshy stomp, to haunting Eastern music box over roiling blacknoise, to thick whirring buzzscape, to wildly careening and crumbling wave of low end crush, to skittery crunch and glitch, to thick windblown wasteland sountrack, to chopped up plunderphonia, to haunting hushed drift. Cool stuff, but definitely be warned, this is some seriously noisy shit!

To collect the field recordings T.O.M.B. traveled and trespassed through Pennsylvanias darkest landmarks including: Bethlehem Steel Works - builder of large caliber guns during WWI and WWII Eden Hall Church - 157 year old gothic church destroyed from arson Laurel Hill Cemetery - 170 year old cemetery Lambertville High School - students burned alive 30 years ago, site of countless suicides since. Each location has a disturbing history and they have become locations of multiple ghost sightings and unexplained deaths. Through these field recordings, smashing recording rods into massive steel structures and ancient crypt doors, T.O.M.B. reawakens the decaying structures and the agonizing history they hold sealed. The recordings are then crafted into the darkest, heaviest BLACK NOISE ever recorded. And for the first time full Black Metal / Industrial tracks have been created. Macabre Noize Royale is T.O.M.B.s most diverse album by far. Integrating pure noise with ambiance, Industrial and Black Metal.
